The Conference
FOIS is the flagship conference of the International Association for Ontology and its Applications (IAOA).
FOIS is a meeting point for all researchers with an interest in formal ontology. Formal ontology is the systematic study of the types of entities and relations making up the domains of interest represented in modern information systems. The conference encourages submission of high quality, not previously published results on both theoretical issues and practical advancements. FOIS 2026 will have distinct tracks for foundational issues, ontology applications and methods, and domain ontologies.
FOIS aims to be a nexus of interdisciplinary research and communication for researchers from many domains engaging with formal ontology. Common application areas include conceptual modeling, database design, knowledge engineering and management, software engineering, organizational modeling, artificial intelligence, robotics, computational linguistics, the life sciences, bioinformatics and scientific research in general, geographic information science, information retrieval, library and information science, as well as the Semantic Web.
FOIS 2026 will be hosted in Vitória, ES, Brazil.

Registration terms and conditions
* For FOIS authors, full registration (or registration as online presenter) is mandatory before 8 July
* For JOWO and satelite track authors, full registration is mandatory before 31 July
**Students must prove their status at the time of registration by uploading a valid certificate of enrolment in a formal study program (bachelor, M.Sc. or Ph.D.).
**Students presenting in the FOIS main track must register with a “Full registration” or as “FOIS online presenter” if applicable.
** FOIS will receive applications from students for an exemption in the student registration fee. Details to be announced.
*** From 22 August, registration will be accepted only via PIX, Boleto Bancário or PayPal; Registrations with Credit Cards issued in Brazil will no longer be possible.
*** Onsite registrations are highly discouraged.
Creacteve Eventos is the local Professional Congress Organizer, managing the registration process and is responsible for collecting the registration fees.
The total amount will be charged in REAIS (BRL – Brazilian Currency) – There might be some discrepancy in the final total in your currency, as the exchange rate fluctuates daily and depends exclusively on the banks and credit card companies.
The merchant name that would appear on your credit card statement will be “creacteve“.
Prices in EUR or USD have been converted in BRL , the table below is JUST FOR REFERENCE as charges must be in Brazilian Currency BRL :

International Payments:
- International payment via credit card, is accepted only via PayPal. You do not need to have a PayPal account to proceed to the payment. You can use your regular credit card even if you do not have a PayPal Account.
- If you prefer to pay via wire transfer please email us at creacteve@creacteve.com.br
- Participants who need to pay via wire transfer and require an invoice will be charged an additional EUR 25 fee to cover bank charges.
- All expenses must be borne by the delegate. If you are paying via wire transfer, intermediary bank fees may be applied, please verify with your local bank.
